The Health Improvement Program for Oncology is a focused approach to providing support for people living with certain types of cancer. This program provides individualized support and education to you and your doctor. If eligible for this program, you and your dependent family members can participate at no additional cost to you as part of your employer’s benefits package. You'll receive valuable support to help you:

The Health Improvement Program for Oncology was developed with experts using nationally recognized resources for the most up-to-date, medically sound, effective and efficient treatments.
The program also relies on the best medical judgment of each member's physician. The program team follows the individual treatment plan created by the doctor who knows you best - your personal doctor.
Goals of the Oncology Program
- To provide a nurse care manager to be your coach and advocate, evaluate your health, help you
understand your diagnosis and present information about your options.
- To inform and educate you about your cancer.
- To reduce the fear and anxiety associated with your diagnosis so you can make the best decisions for your life.
- To help you identify and evaluate new advances, clinical trials and treatment options that are on the cutting edge of cancer care.
- To help you manage prescribed therapies and potential side effects.
- To help you understand palliative care and hospice services.
- To provide support for family and caregivers.
Education and support
- Educational Resources and Educational Topics Sheets - Educational resources, services and health information are available from your Health Improvement Program nurse care manager on a variety of issues relating to improved self-care and condition management.
- Telephone Support - You can expect telephone support from your own individually identified nurse care manager who knows your condition is unique, and who will work with you to design your own plan of care. Your nurse manager will work with you to provide any educational materials you may need.
How the program team works with your doctor
Communication with your doctor is key in all aspects of the Health Improvement Program.
The Health Improvement Program supports and assists your doctor; your doctor provides the treatment plan and sets the direction of your care.
